Sunday’s Coming

Posted by lauraoli on April 7, 2012

This short film uses scenes from the film ‘The Passion of the Christ’ to make a powerful video.

Thank you Jesus, that Sunday is coming.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

Posted by lauraoli on November 17, 2011

It has been about 3 and a 1/2 months since I last wrote a blog entry… the longest time I have gone in between posts since I started ‘A New Beginning’ almost 2 years ago.

It’s not a case of me wanting to stop blogging, it’s more of a case of life getting in the way! Medical finals (part 1) are coming up in January, and things have been very busy. After being in nice, (relatively) lazy 4th year, 5th year has hit hard, with long days, regular assessments and lots of work to do.

Trying to keep Jesus at the centre of everything I am doing is proving to be quite a challenge, and I am currently struggling somewhat with the stress of impending exams. I have been feeling quite distant in my relationship with God, and although I know He is ever-present and never-changing, the absence I feel is making me miss the security, love, comfort and peace I have in Jesus. In this case, although absence isn’t making the heart grow finder exactly, it is making me want to be closer to Jesus.

I’m not sure any of you actually noticed my absence (I don’t know exactly who reads this?!), but I am going to try and blog more regularly again!

My chains fell off

Posted by lauraoli on July 23, 2011

Here’s another song for you. This is awesome – it’s a really old hymn (It was written in 1738), and we have recently started singing it at church. Timeless lyrics about an unchanging, loving God. Love it 🙂

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Saviors blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Fathers throne above
So free, so infinite His grace—
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adams helpless race:
Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and natures night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

All I have is Christ

Posted by lauraoli on May 18, 2011

This song was taught to us when at New Word Alive a month or so ago.

It has become the soundtrack to my life at the moment – the lyrics are so incredibly powerful, and every time I am stressed or worried about the dissertation I am currently frantically trying to complete, I listen to this to remind me of the insignificance of my work.

Hallelujah, all I have is Christ,

Hallelujah, Jesus is my life.

What is faith, anyway?

Posted by lauraoli on May 11, 2011

A few weeks ago I went away for New Word Alive – a Christian conference in Pwllheli, Wales. It was a fantastic week – loads of great speakers, lots of quality time spent in fellowship with people from church, singing worship with 5,000 people, and meeting other Christians from every walk of life imaginable.

One night in the main meeting, a guy came on stage and recited an incredible poem. I loved it, and I’ve just found a recording of it, so thought I’d share it here for all of you to enjoy!

2009… the best year yet.

Posted by lauraoli on January 15, 2010

Lots of things happened in 2009.

  • Barack Obama became the first black president of the US.
  • Man Utd won the Premier League for the third successive year (woop!).
  • The King of Pop, Michael Jackson died.
  • I managed to pass third year of medicine without completely falling apart.

But for me, 2009 will be forever memorable for one reason that outshines all of these.

2009 was the year I came to know Jesus, asked for His forgiveness and started my new life living for Him.

I’ve started this blog so that I can keep a record of my spiritual path as I continue in my new life. I’m hoping that I can write down things that affect me, things that I learn, problems I might be having or just whatever might be on my mind. I’ve no idea how it’s going to go, but I’m looking forward to getting stuck in!
